European Equities Finish Varied

(MENAFN) European equity markets ended the first session of the week on an uneven note, although most sectors across the region posted advances.

The broad-based Stoxx Europe 600 inched up 0.13% to settle at 618.52 on Monday.

In the UK, the FTSE 100 gained 0.26%, finishing at 10,473.69. France’s CAC 40 edged 0.06% higher to close at 8,316.5, while Spain’s IBEX 35 jumped 0.99% to 17,848.

Meanwhile, Germany’s DAX 40 dropped 0.46% to 24,800.91, and Italy’s FTSE MIB 30 dipped 0.03%, ending the day at 45,419.2.

Earlier figures indicated that industrial output in the euro area contracted by 1.4% in December on a month-over-month basis, though it registered a 1.2% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.

Throughout the European Union, corporate insolvency filings rose 2.5% in the fourth quarter of 2025 relative to the preceding quarter.

The euro was quoted at 1.1848 versus the US dollar at 5:40 p.m. GMT, marking a 0.18% decline.
