Israel Restricts Entry of Spanish Ministers

(MENAFN) Israel on Monday enforced travel prohibitions and personal penalties on two Spanish government members due to their outspoken condemnation of Israeli conduct in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.

“Israel will not maintain any ties with Deputy Prime Minister of Spain and Minister of Labor Yolanda Diaz,” declared Foreign Minister Gideon Saar in a message shared on the American social media platform X.

Saar noted that Diaz, who belongs to the Communist Party of Spain, will additionally be barred from entering Israel.

Diaz has consistently denounced what she described as Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza and breaches of a ceasefire arrangement with Lebanon. She has further called for the enforcement of global sanctions and an arms embargo against Israel in response to its actions.

“Similar sanctions will also be imposed against Sira Rago, Minister for Youth and Children, from the same party. Entry into Israel will be prohibited, and Israel will not have any contact with it,” Saar emphasized.

Rago has also labeled Israel a “genocidal state” due to its military operations in Gaza and urged the European Union to completely sever relations with Israel and apply punitive measures.

According to Saar, additional consultations on restrictions against foreign dignitaries will be held with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

On the same day, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez introduced nine new initiatives designed to halt the “genocide in Gaza,” including a permanent halt on weapons exports to Israel.

In recent months, Israel has prohibited the entry of numerous Western politicians and activists who have voiced support for Palestinians and condemned Israeli military campaigns in the Gaza Strip.
